what is my gotra i am ayati surname is jain birthdate is 6 / 12 / 09
In Jainism, your gotra cannot be known from:
- Your first name (Ayati)
- Your surname (Jain)
- Your birthdate (6/12/2009)
Gotra is a family / ancestral lineage name, and in Jain tradition it is mostly a social concept, not a spiritual one. It is usually known only through family and community records.
To find your gotra, you should:
- Ask your parents, grandparents or other elders
- They are the best source; many times they already know the family gotra or “kul” name.
- Check any old family documents
- Marriage invitation cards - Old community records - Temple records (sometimes written during marriages or special rituals)
- Ask at your local Jain temple or Jain community group
- They may have records or elders who know your family lineage.
In many Jain families, especially today, gotra is not used very strictly. In Jain Dharma, what really matters is your right faith, right knowledge and right conduct, not your birth-gotra.
