Which are compulsory kriya in varshitap as per swetamber
In Śvetāmbara tradition, there is no single universal “official” list of compulsory kriyā for Varṣītap – it slightly changes according to gacch, saṅgh and your own Guru’s āgñā.
But almost all Śvetāmbara groups consider the following as compulsory / near–compulsory during Varṣītap:
- Pakkha (or daily) Pachchakkhān / Saṅkalpa
- Taking proper vow of Varṣītap from a Guru / learned sādhujī / sādhujī / śrāvak with vidhi. - Renewing the saṅkalpa (pachchakkhān) as told by your Guru.
- Daily Navkār Mantra & Dev–Guru–Dharma vandan
- Multiple recitations of Navkār Mantra. - Bowing to Arihant, Siddha, Āchārya, Upādhyāy, Sādhu (Dev–Guru–Dharma vandan).
- Avashyaks (especially Samayik + Pratikraman)
In Varṣītap, at least these are generally expected every day: - Samayik – sitting in equanimity, avoiding rāg–dveṣ. - Pratikraman – asking forgiveness for faults of that day. Many Gurus tell you to do all 6 Avashyaks regularly, but minimum Samayik and Pratikraman is usually treated as compulsory.
- Daily Svādhhyāy (study of Jain āgams / granths)
- Reading / listening to Jain scriptures, lives of Tīrthankars, etc. - Not just fasting, but increasing right knowledge and right meditation.
- Jap, Stavan, Bhakti
- Navkār jap, Logassa, Uvasaggaharam, Bhaktāmara or other sutras as guided by your Guru. - Stavan / bhakti of Tīrthankar Mahāvīr, as Varṣītap is connected with His one–year fast.
- Maun (silence) – at least for some time daily
- Many Gurus insist on niyam of partial / full maun every day or on special tithis. - Control of speech is treated as an important kriyā in Varṣītap.
- Maryādā about food (Gochari / Limitation of ras)
- Eating only after proper pachchakkhān. - On “beshanā” days: limited āhār, often gochari style, no taste–oriented eating, no night–eating, etc. - On “upvās” days: full fast as per āgñā.
- Dāna & Sevā
- Supporting sādhus–sādhvīs, upāśray / derāsar, helping poor / needy in dhārmik way. - Doing it without pride, just as bhaav–suddhi during tap.
---
Most important point: Which kriyā are strictly compulsory for your Varṣītap depends on:
- Your gacch / panth (Tapāgacch, Khartaragacch, etc.)
- The maryādā of your local saṅgh
- The direct āgñā of your Guru / Pujya Mahārāj Saheb / Pujya Sādhvījī
So for śuddh Varṣītap phal, you should treat as compulsory:
- Whatever pachchakkhān words and kriyās your Guru has given.
- Daily Samayik + Pratikraman at minimum.
- Regular Navkār jap, Svādhyāy, Dev–Guru–Dharma vandan, and niyam of food as above.
For exact list (like which stotras, how many Samayik, how much maun, which special tithis, etc.) you must follow your own Guru’s instructions, because phala of Varṣītap depends on following their āgñā more than on any general list.
