will jain people eat foods that have been processed in a factory w milk eggs etc

Jains are mainly concerned with ahimsa (non‑violence) and how much life is harmed in food production. So the answer depends on what exactly is in the processed food:

    1. Milk (dairy)

    • Many Jains (both Śvetāmbara and Digambara householders) do use milk and milk products (like ghee, curd, paneer) in daily life.
    • So if a factory‑processed food contains only vegetarian ingredients + milk products, many Jains will eat it.
    • However, more and more Jains avoid factory dairy if:
    - Cows/buffaloes are treated cruelly, - There is mixing of non‑veg ingredients (like animal fat, gelatin, rennet).

So: Milk-based but fully vegetarian processed foods – commonly accepted by many Jains, but stricter Jains may avoid them if there is himsa in production.

    2. Eggs

    • Eggs are strictly non‑veg for Jains.
    • Any food containing eggs (even “egg powder” in biscuits, cake mixes, mayonnaise, etc.) is not allowed.
    • Even if the rest of the food seems vegetarian, presence of egg makes it unacceptable for a Jain diet.

So: Factory-processed food with egg – Jains who follow Jain food rules properly will not eat it.

    3. Factory processing in general

Jains can eat factory‑made food if:
    1. It is pure vegetarian (no egg, no meat, no fish, no gelatin, no animal fat, no rennet, etc.).
    2. It avoids strong root vegetables if the person follows that level (potato, onion, garlic, etc. – many Jains avoid these).
    3. There is no alcohol or intoxicants.
    4. It is checked carefully for hidden ingredients (E‑numbers, emulsifiers, flavors, etc.) that may be animal‑based.

    Simple summary

    • Milk in processed food – Many Jains: yes (if vegetarian and as per their personal strictness).
    • Egg in processed food – Properly practicing Jains: no.
    • Always read the ingredients and avoid anything that involves more violence or non‑veg content.

If you tell me a specific product (like a certain biscuit, chips, or chocolate), I can help you think through whether a Jain would normally eat it.
