types of labdhis
In Jainism, labdhi means a special spiritual attainment or power that appears when karmas are destroyed or calmed (kṣaya / upaśama).
Main types (labdhi na prakar) usually described are:
- Jñāna Labdhi (ज्ञान लब्धि) – Attainment of knowledge
- Mati-jñāna labdhi – ordinary/sensory knowledge - Śruta-jñāna labdhi – scriptural knowledge - Avadhi-jñāna labdhi – clairvoyant knowledge - Manaḥparyāya-jñāna labdhi – telepathic knowledge - Keval-jñāna labdhi – perfect omniscient knowledge
- Darśan Labdhi (दर्शन लब्धि) – Attainment of right perception
- Cakṣu-darśan – seeing through eyes - Acakṣu-darśan – perception without eyes - Avadhi-darśan – clairvoyant perception - Keval-darśan – perfect perception
- Vīrya Labdhi (वीर्य लब्धि) – Attainment of spiritual energy
- Special inner strength to do sādhana, tapa, and follow vows firmly.
- Sukha Labdhi (सुख लब्धि) – Attainment of bliss
- Rising experience of inner happiness, finally infinite bliss when related karmas end.
- Other important labdhis
- Samyaktva Labdhi – attainment of right faith (samyag-darśan). - Samādhi Labdhi – attainment of deep, steady meditation.
All traditions agree that:
- These labdhis are natural powers of the soul.
- They appear as karmic veils become thinner.
- The goal is moksha, not enjoyment of powers; attachment to labdhis can become a spiritual obstacle.
