In Jainism, life is not just a journey from birth to death.

Life = existence of the soul (jīv), which is beginningless and endless. Birth and death are only changing of bodies, like changing clothes. The soul continues.

Your “vehicle–fuel” idea can be brought close to Jain philosophy like this:

    1. What is the “journey” in Jainism?

    • The real journey is of the soul through saṁsār – countless births in:
    - hellish beings (narakī), - tiryañc (animals, insects, plants, etc.), - human beings, - heavenly beings (devas).
    • This journey continues until the soul becomes free of all karma and attains moksha (liberation). ( jainknowledge.com)

So, Jain view: Not “one journey from one birth to one death”, but infinite journeys until final freedom.

You can read a simple explanation of “what is life” here:

    ---

    2. What is the “vehicle”?

In Jain dharma, progress of the soul happens through Ratnatray (three jewels):

    1. Samyak Darshan – Right Faith (true view of reality, no mithyātva)
    2. Samyak Jñān – Right Knowledge (correct understanding of tattvas)
    3. Samyak Chāritra – Right Conduct (living with vows, ahimsā, restraint)

You can call these together the true “vehicle” that takes the soul toward moksha. Qualities like love, patience, ahimsā etc. are part of Right Conduct, not separate vehicles.

    ---

    3. What is the “fuel”? (Bhāv)

Your main point is correct: Without proper bhāv (inner attitude / intention), even the best “vehicle” will not move.

    In Jainism:

    • Bhāv = inner state of the soul – feelings, intentions, passions, purity. ( jainknowledge.com)
    • Karma does not bind only because of outer action; it binds because of inner bhāv:
    - anger, pride, deceit, greed, attachment → bind karma (bandh) - forgiveness, humility, straightforwardness, detachment → loosen karma (nirjarā) ( jainknowledge.com)

So you are right that bhāv is essential, but scriptures make some clear points:

    • Fuel is not just any emotion; it must be śuddha bhāv (pure attitude) –
like samveg, nirved, anukampā, upsham, shānti (urgency for liberation, disgust for saṁsār, compassion, calmness, peace).
    • Tirthankars did not “choose different fuels”; all of them had:
    - complete kṣayik bhāv (fully purified state), - total destruction of ghāti karmas, - perfect Ratnatray.

    ---

    4. “Using this bhav tool I have attained moksha”

    According to Jain siddhānt:

    • Moksha is attained only when all karmas are completely destroyed,
the soul becomes kevalī (omniscient), and at the end of that life goes to Siddha-śilā.
    • In our current era on earth (Jambūdvīp, 5th/6th āras),
no new soul can attain keval-jñān or moksha. This is clearly described in Jain time‑cycle doctrine.

    So, from Jain scriptural view:

    • We can definitely purify our bhāv, reduce karmas, and move closer to the path.
    • We can become more samyak-drashti, more self‑controlled, more ahimsak.
    • But claiming “I have attained moksha” while living as an ordinary human in this time‑cycle does not match Jain doctrine.

    ---

    5. A simple, Jain way to reframe your insight

    You can say:

    • “Life is an endless journey of the soul through many births.”
    • “Right Faith, Right Knowledge and Right Conduct are my vehicle.”
    • “Pure bhāv is the fuel; without it, no real spiritual progress happens.”
    • “By improving my bhāv, I am moving toward the state that leads to moksha.”

This is fully aligned with Jain tattva and keeps your beautiful metaphor, but in pure Jain form.
