    Story of maninhadra veer

    4 months ago 169

Here is the simple Jain story of Manibhadra Veer (Manibhadraveer Dada) in easy language:

    1. Who is Manibhadra Veer?

    • He is a Yaksha dev (protector deity) in Jainism.
    • He is shown with six arms and his vahan is an elephant.
    • He is a Kshetrapal – protector of Jains and Jain tirths.
    • Jains worship him only after Arihant–Siddha; he is not a Tirthankar.

    2. His previous birth – Shravak Maneksha

    • In his earlier human birth, he was a Jain shravak named Maneksha in Ujjain.
    • His Guru was Acharya Hemvimal Suri (Hemvimal Suriji).
    • During chaturmas in Agra, Maneksha heard many pravachans about the greatness of Shatrunjay (Palitana) and the Navkar Mantra.
    • He decided to do a very hard yatra to Shatrunjay on foot, with Navanu yatra (many times climbing the hill) and ending with a 2‑day fast (chhatt) under the Rayan tree.

    3. Martyrdom on the way to Shatrunjay

    • With Guru’s aashirvad, Maneksha started his yatra on Kartaki Poonam.
    • Near today’s Magarwada (Gujarat), a group of dacoits attacked the yatris.
    • Maneksha was doing Navkar jaap with full bhakti and at the same time trying to save the other pilgrims.
    • In that fight, his body was cut into three parts, and he gave up his life protecting others.
    • Because of his deep faith, Navkar jaap and sacrifice for dharma, he took next birth as a very powerful deva – Indra Manibhadra Veer.

    4. Why three places of Manibhadra Veer? According to Jain tradition, in that attack his body parts fell at three different places:

    • Pindi (lower part, below waist) – fell at Magarwada (Magarvada), Gujarat
    • Dhad (torso, middle body) – fell at Aglod, Gujarat
    • Mashtak (head) – fell at Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

So, there are three main sthans of Manibhadra Veer:

    1. Magarwada – worship of Pindi (lower part)
    2. Aglod – worship of Dhad (torso)
    3. Ujjain – worship of Mashtak (head)

Many Jains believe that doing darshan of all three places in one day (sunrise to sunset) is very special and gives great punya and protection.

    5. How he became “Rakshak Dev” (protector)

    • After becoming Indra Manibhadra Veerdev, he especially protected the Jain sangh.
    • Once, his Guru’s disciples were facing problems from Bhairavs / evil powers.
    • Manibhadra Veer controlled and subdued those Bhairavs and removed the obstacles.
    • Because of this, he became famous as a strong protector of sadhus, sadhvis and shravak–shravikas.
    • His Guru, pleased with him, installed the Pindi at Magarwada on Maha Sud Pancham and a derasar was built there.
    • From then on, people started going to Magarwada, Aglod, Ujjain for his darshan and raksha-bhakti.

    6. His form and bhakti

    • He is shown as a six‑armed Yaksha, seated, with elephant vahan.
    • Devotees offer shrifal (coconut) and sukhadi as favourite bhog.
    • Many people do his stuti, jaap, yantra‑puja for:
    - Raksha (protection) - Removal of obstacles and fear - Safety in travel, business and family life

    7. Shwetambar & Digambar view

    • Shwetambar (especially Tapa Gacch):
    - Manibhadra Veer is very popular as Shasan Rakshak / Kshetrapal. - Special yantra, stotra and veer‑puja are done in some derasars.
    • Digambar:
    - Also know him regionally as a protector dev, but rituals are fewer and style is different.
    • Both agree: Arihant–Siddha and Ratnatraya are always highest. Dev‑puja (like Manibhadra, Ghantakarna Mahavir, Nakoda Bhairav) is secondary and must not disturb Jain principles of ahimsa, samyak darshan, samyak charitra.
