    Examples of tendriya jeev

    6 months ago 151

In Jainism, tendriya jeev means two-sensed beings – i.e. those who have:

    • Sparshendriya – sense of touch
    • Rasendriya – sense of taste

They do not have eyes, ears, or nose.

Main examples of tendriya jeev (two-sensed beings)

    Common traditional examples:

    1. Keet (worms / small soft-bodied creatures)

    - Many types of worms that live in wet soil, rotten food, damp places etc.

    1. Pipilika ke kuch prakar (some very simple ant/larva forms)

    - Not the fully developed ants (they usually have more senses), but very simple early forms/larvae are often counted in lower-sensed categories.

    1. Some very simple aquatic tiny creatures

    - Tiny soft-bodied beings in stagnated water, mud, and slime that can feel touch and taste, but do not have developed other senses.

    1. Certain types of small insects’ larvae

    - Larvae that only respond to touch and taste, but have not developed sight, smell, or hearing.

In Jain philosophy, the exact classification can be very detailed and technical (based on scriptures), but for basic understanding, remember:

    • Ekendriya jeev – only touch (e.g. earth, water, fire, air, plants)
    • Tendriya jeev – touch + taste (simple worms, tiny soft-bodied creatures)

All of them are fully living souls, and hurting or killing them causes pāpa (sin), so we try to be very careful in walking, cleaning, using water, food, etc.
