Samyak darshan samyak gyan samyak charitra

    6 months ago 188

“Samyak Darshan, Samyak Gyan, Samyak Charitra” is the famous Jain “Ratnatraya” – the Three Jewels. These three together lead the soul towards liberation (moksha).

    Let’s understand them simply:

    ---

    1. Samyak Darshan (Right Faith / Right Vision)

    • Having true faith in:
    - Tirthankars - Soul (atma) - Karma principle - Jain scriptures and true gurus
    • Looking at the world with right vision:
    - No blind faith - No hatred towards other souls - Respect for all living beings
    • It is the first step – without right faith, knowledge and conduct cannot become pure.

    ---

    2. Samyak Gyan (Right Knowledge)

    • Knowing reality correctly, as taught by Jinas:
    - Nature of soul and karma - Truth of birth–death cycle (samsar) - Principles like Anekantvad, Ahimsa, Aparigrah, etc.
    • Right knowledge means:
    - Free from doubt, illusion, and wrong belief - Based on Jain Agamas / scriptures, not imagination

    ---

    3. Samyak Charitra (Right Conduct)

    • Living according to Right Faith and Right Knowledge.
    • For monks:
    - Mahavratas (great vows) – complete non-violence, truth, non-stealing, celibacy, non-possession
    • For householders:
    - Anuvratas (small vows) – limited but sincere practice of the same principles
    • Includes:
    - Controlling anger, pride, deceit, greed - Practicing forgiveness, humility, simplicity, compassion

    ---

    Relation between the Three

    • Samyak Darshan = Right vision (seeing truth)
    • Samyak Gyan = Right understanding (knowing truth)
    • Samyak Charitra = Right living (living truth)

All three together purify the soul and slowly destroy karmas, leading to moksha.

If you want, I can also explain each in even simpler daily-life examples.
