    Pujya gurudevsri kanji Swami

Pujya Gurudevshri Kanji Swami (1889–1980) was one of the most important Jain thinkers of the 20th century, especially for those who follow Kundkund‑Acharya’s philosophy.

    Here is a simple overview:

    1. Early life

    • Born in 1889 in Umrala (Saurashtra, Gujarat) in a Śvetāmbara Sthānakvāsī family.
    • From childhood he was very intelligent, deeply interested in dharma and scriptures, and had strong vairāgya (detachment).

    2. Turning point

    • In middle age, after intense study, he became deeply influenced by the works of Āchārya Kundkund and other Digambar āchāryas (like Samantabhadra, Pujyapāda, etc.).
    • From then on, his entire focus became soul‑centric (ātmā‑kendrit) Jain tattvagyan, mainly based on texts like Samaysār, Pravachansār, Niyamsār.

    3. Songadh – centre of his work

    • He lived and preached mainly in Songadh (Gujarat).
    • Thousands of mumukshus (seekers) came there to listen to his pravachans.
    • Around him gradually developed what is commonly called “Kanji Panth” – i.e., followers devoted to the path as he explained it (actually, pure Jain philosophy of Kundkund‑Acharya re‑emphasized for our time).

    4. Main emphasis of his teachings (in very short)

    • Real Self is the pure, conscious soul – completely separate from body, mind, karma.
    • Mithyātva (wrong belief) is the root of all bondage; samyag‑darshan (right faith) is the real beginning of the path.
    • True dharma is inner awakening, not just outer ritual.
    • He strongly explained the difference between:
    - Vyavahār naya – worldly, practical standpoint, and - Nishchay naya – ultimate, real standpoint of the pure soul.
    • He insisted that mumukshu must constantly reflect on the pure soul (śuddhopayog), using scriptures like Samaysār as a mirror.

    5. Contribution

    • Re‑awakened interest in Digambar Jain philosophical texts among Gujarati Jains.
    • Gave thousands of deep discourses clarifying subtle topics like dravya–guṇa–paryāy, naya, bandha–moksha, and the nature of samyag‑darshan.
    • Many study centres, temples, and trusts today (especially in Songadh and abroad) are inspired by his teachings.

    6. Tradition note

    • Though born Śvetāmbara, his darshan is based mainly on Digambar Āgam and commentaries, especially Kundkund‑Acharya.
    • His followers are laypeople (śrāvaks/śrāvikās); he did not start a separate monastic order, but a powerful line of thought (darshan‑paramparā).

If you tell me what you are looking for specifically (short life story, main concepts he taught, explanation of Samaysār as he saw it, or his famous “vachanamrut”/bol), I can give that in very simple points as well.
