In Jain society, surname and community (Saitwal Jain) do not automatically tell us your gotra.

For Saitwal Jains:

• There is no single fixed gotra for all Saitwals.
• Different Saitwal families have different gotras, depending on their ancestral family line.
• The surname “Aherkar” by itself is not enough to accurately decide your gotra.

To know your correct gotra, you should:

1. Ask your parents, grandparents, or elders – usually they know the family gotra.
2. Check old wedding cards, family records, or family tree if available.
3. If needed, consult your local Saitwal Jain Sangh / community; they often keep genealogical details.

From the Jain dharma point of view, gotra is a social/family identifier, mainly used in marriage matching to avoid close blood relations. Spiritually, what truly matters is right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct, not caste or surname.
