in reincarnation, could a male become a female
Yes.
In Jainism, this is very clear:
- The soul (jiva) itself has no gender – it is not male, female, or anything else.
- Gender belongs only to the body, which is decided by karma at the time of a new birth.
- So, a soul that is now in a male body can easily take birth in a female body in the next life, and the opposite is also true. There can also be a third type (napuṁsaka) birth.
Different Jain traditions (Digambar and Shwetambar) may differ on questions like whether a woman can get moksha in the present female body, but all agree that:
- The soul is genderless and equal in capacity.
- Rebirth as male or female can keep changing from life to life based on karma and inner tendencies.
