    Sutra for kids calmness

    6 months ago 138

For calmness in kids, the best and simplest Jain sutra is the Navkār Mantra (Namokār Mantra). It is universal (accepted in both Śvetāmbara and Digambara traditions) and very soothing for the mind.

    ---

    1. Sutra (for kids to chant)

    Navkār Mantra / Namokār Mantra

    > णमो अरिहंताणं > णमो सिद्धाणं > णमो आयरियाणं > णमो उवज्झायाणं > णमो लोए सव्वसाहूणं > > एसो पंच णमोक्कारो > सव्वपावप्पणासणो > मंगलाणं च सव्वेसिं > पडमं हवई मंगलं ॥

(You can also teach in Hindi/English script as they are comfortable.)

    ---

    2. Very simple meaning for children

    Explain in very easy lines:

    • I bow to the Arihants – those who have destroyed inner anger, pride, greed, and deceit.
    • I bow to the Siddhas – completely pure souls who are free from birth and death.
    • I bow to the Āchāryas – our great Jain teachers.
    • I bow to the Upādhyāyas – our Jain spiritual teachers who explain scriptures.
    • I bow to all Sādhus and Sādhvīs – monks and nuns who walk on the path of non‑violence and truth.

These five namaskārs remove bad karma and are the highest kind of prayer.

    ---

    3. How to use it for kids’ calmness

You can make a very simple routine:

    1. Morning and Night (2 minutes only)

    - Sit cross‑legged, back straight. - Close eyes gently. - Join hands and chant Navkār Mantra 5 or 9 times slowly.

    1. When angry or upset

    - Tell the child: “First, take 3 deep breaths and say Navkār Mantra once.” - This slowly reduces anger and fear.

    1. Before study or exam

    - Chant Navkār Mantra once with folded hands. - Teach them to think: “May my mind be peaceful and clear.”

    1. Make it joyful

    - You can chant together as a family. - Keep the tone soft and musical so the child feels relaxed, not forced.

    ---

    4. Short calming line (for very small kids)

If the child is very young, you can even start with:

    > “णमो अरिहंताणं… ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः”

Repeat slowly 3 times. Gradually, when they remember, you can add the full Navkār Mantra.

    ---

Regular chanting with love (not fear or pressure) helps children become:

    • calmer,
    • less angry,
    • more focused,
    • and more compassionate.
