In Jainism, God is not an invisible ghost in the sky and also not a creator who controls everything.

Very simply:

1. No creator-god idea

- Jain Dharma teaches that the universe has no beginning and no end. - It runs by its own natural laws (karma, substances, time, etc.), not by the will of a creator. ( jainknowledge.com)

1. Who is “God” in Jain sense?

- When Jains say “Bhagwan” or bow in a temple, they are bowing to: - Arihant / Tirthankar – a soul who has destroyed inner passions and attained keval-jnan (omniscience). - Siddha – a fully liberated soul, forever free from birth, death and karma. ( jainknowledge.com) - These are perfected souls, not ghosts, not controllers. They don’t interfere, punish or reward. They simply exist in a state of pure bliss and knowledge.

1. Devas (gods) do exist, but…

- Jain texts speak about devas (heavenly beings). - They have powers and enjoy pleasure, but they are also bound by karma and will again take birth. - They are not creators, and they cannot give liberation. ( jainknowledge.com)

1. So what do Jains actually worship?

- Jains worship the qualities of enlightened souls: perfect non-violence, truth, detachment, compassion. - Puja is done to inspire us to become like them, not to ask favours from a sky-god. ( jainknowledge.com)

In one line: For Jainism, “God” = any soul who has become perfectly pure and liberated, not an invisible ghost or creator in the sky.
