    1st Aara details

    one year ago 155

In Jainism, time is considered cyclical and is divided into two equal halves: Utsarpini (ascending half-cycle) and Avasarpini (descending half-cycle). Each half-cycle (called an "Aara" or "Āra") is further divided into six aras, or time periods, each with distinct characteristics regarding happiness, morality, and spirituality.

The 1st Aara is called Suṣama-suṣamā-kāla (Sukhama-sukhama kaal), which means "the period of utmost happiness and bliss." Here are the details:

    1st Aara: Suṣama-suṣamā

    • Duration: 4 crore crore Sagaropama Years (a Sagaropama is an extremely long period, far beyond human comprehension)
    • Characteristics:
    - Complete Happiness: There is absolute happiness, no sorrow, disease, or suffering. - No Religion Needed: There is no need for religious teachings or practices because everyone is naturally virtuous. - No Tirthankaras: Tirthankaras do not manifest in this era because all living beings are already free from passions and suffering. - Physical and Mental Perfection: People have divine bodies, do not age, and have immense height and strength. - No Death or Birth: There is no cycle of birth and death in the way we know it; beings exist in a state of bliss. - No Need for Food or Shelter: The environment provides all needs automatically.

    Significance in Jain Cosmology

    • The 1st Aara is considered the golden age, a time of absolute purity and spiritual elevation.
    • It is followed by the second Aara, which gradually introduces a slight decline in happiness.

    Context

Currently, according to Jain cosmology, we are in the 5th Aara of the Avasarpini (descending) half-cycle, which is considered a period of sorrow and spiritual decline.
