does bad looks give paap karma
In Jainism, “bad looks” themselves do not create pāp (sinful karma).
What is important is bhāv – your inner thoughts and feelings.
- Looks are result, not cause
- Our body, face, colour, beauty/ugliness etc. come from nāma‑karma (body‑making karma) from past lives. - So “good looking” or “bad looking” is mainly the fruit of old karmas, not a new sin by itself.
- When does pāp happen?
Pāp is bound by: - हिंसा (violence), झूठ, चोरी, कु‑काम, अधिक परिग्रह - क्रोध, मान, माया, लोभ, राग, द्वेष, etc. In context of looks, pāp is created if for example: - You mock or insult someone for their looks. - You develop hatred, jealousy, or strong inferiority/superiority because of looks. - You harm your own or others’ body out of anger, passion, or attachment.
- What does not give pāp?
- Simply having an “ugly” face or body: no pāp. - Feeling a little sad sometimes about your looks, but without hatred or evil intention: generally light effect; more a sign to develop acceptance and equanimity.
- Right Jain view
- Accept the body as a temporary result of past karma. - Use this life to purify inner qualities: ahimsā, forgiveness, contentment, humility. - Whether beautiful or not, if your heart becomes pure, you bind puṇya and move towards freedom from all karma.
