    WHY JAINISM IS WRONG

    6 months ago 119

Jainism itself does not claim that “others are wrong”; it only explains a path and its own reasoning. Whether you feel it is “wrong” usually depends on which point you disagree with. Let me respond from inside Jain philosophy, very simply.

Jainism is built on a few core ideas:

    1. Every soul is real and eternal

    - There is jīva (soul) and ajīva (non‑soul / matter, space, etc.). - Soul has natural qualities: knowledge, perception, bliss, energy. - Because of karma, these are covered, so we experience ignorance, pain, confusion.

    1. Karma is a natural law, not a gift or punishment from God

    - Whatever we think, speak, or do, attracts “karmic particles” to the soul. - These karmas later give results: pleasure–pain, birth–death, etc. - No Tirthankara or God is making you suffer; you yourself are responsible. ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. The goal is moksha (liberation)

    - Complete destruction of karma, so the soul shines in its pure state. - Then there is no rebirth, no sorrow – only infinite knowledge and bliss. ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. The method is very practical: Right Faith, Right Knowledge, Right Conduct

    - Samyak darshan: right vision / faith – seeing reality correctly. - Samyak jñān: right knowledge – understanding soul, karma, and the path. - Samyak chāritra: right conduct – living with self‑control and non‑violence. ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. Ethics are centred on Ahimsā (non‑violence)

    - Do not harm any living being in thought, word, or action. - Along with this: - Satya – truth - Aste ya – non‑stealing - Brahmacharya – sexual restraint/celibacy - Aparigraha – non‑possessiveness ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. Anekāntavād: accepting many viewpoints

    - Reality is many‑sided. - My view may be partly true, yours may also be partly true. - So Jains are taught not to say “Only I am right; everyone else is wrong.” ( jainknowledge.com)

Because of anekāntavād, a Jain response to “Jainism is wrong” is usually:

    • Maybe you are seeing it from a different angle.
    • Let us check calmly: Which exact principle seems wrong to you?
    - Non‑violence? - Karma as a natural law? - Soul and rebirth? - No creator‑god? - Renunciation / self‑discipline?

From the Jain side, “wrong” (mithyātva) means:

    • A view that increases attachment, hatred, and violence, and takes the soul further from liberation.
    • “Right” (samyak) is what reduces anger, pride, deceit, greed, and karmic bondage.

So instead of saying “Jainism is wrong” or “You are wrong,” Jain dharma asks:

    • Does this teaching make me more peaceful, truthful, and less violent?
    • Does it help me reduce passions and ego?
    • Does it lead me toward inner freedom?

If you tell me specifically what you think is wrong in Jainism, I can explain how Jain āgams and ācāryas have answered that point.
