Worshipped ganpati, Krishna, shiv, ambe maata is sin?
In Jain dharma, the main issue is not the name of the dev/Devi, but:
- What is your belief about them?
- What do you expect from them?
- Do they take the place of Arihant–Siddha–Sadhu–Shrut (Panch Parmeshthi) in your heart?
So, is it “sin” to worship Ganpati, Krishna, Shiv, Ambe Maa?
1. From pure Jain viewpoint (samyak darshan)
According to Jain philosophy:
- Only Arihant and Siddha bhagwan are the final goal.
- Indra, Ganpati, Krishna, Shiv, Amba etc. (as commonly worshipped in Hindu tradition) are not Tirthankar / Siddha. They are at most high devas or great souls within samsar (cycle of birth–death).
- To believe that any dev or Devi will:
So, if your faith is like this: “Ganpati/Krishna/Shiv/Amba are supreme God, they give moksha, they are above Arihant/Siddha” → this is wrong belief, spiritually harmful for a Jain.
2. What if I already did/was doing such worship?
- Past actions done in ignorance create karma, but Jain dharma always gives chance for prashchit (repentance) and correction.
- You can:
Jainism never teaches guilt and fear; it teaches understanding and change.
3. If you are forced by family / social pressure
Many Jains face:
- At home / in society: Ganpati sthapana, Krishna Janmashtami, Shiv ratri, Navratri Garba, Ambe maa aarti, etc.
In such situations:
- Externally: You may stand, join respectfully to maintain family harmony (if you cannot avoid).
- Internally: Keep dradh bhav:
- Try calmly to explain Jain view at home when the time is right, without anger or insult of their devtas (that also creates pap through harsh speech).
This keeps you away from hard mithyātva, and gradually family also understands your path.
4. Clear Jain guideline (simple)
- Highest worship:
- Arihant bhagwan - Siddha bhagwan - Sadhu/Sadhvi (true muni/aryika) - Jin-vani (Agam, scriptures)
- Allowed with understanding:
- Yaksh/Yakshini like Ambika, Padmavati, Chakreshwari etc., as Jain shasan dev–devi, only as helpers, not as givers of moksha. ( en.wikipedia.org)
- To be avoided:
- Treating Ganpati, Krishna, Shiv, Ambe Mata (in non‑Jain form) as: - “Supreme God over all” - “Direct giver of moksha” - “One who will cancel my karma if I just pray”
This is mithya shraddha and becomes a cause of spiritual fall.
5. Practical way forward for you
- Don’t panic: “I did a big sin” and go into depression. That again strengthens moha.
- Do this calmly:

In summary:
- Yes, making these devas your ultimate God and saviour goes against Jain samyak darshan and is spiritually wrong.
- But Jain dharma gives you a gentle path: understand, repent inside, and now lovingly turn your worship towards Arihant–Siddha and true Jain dev–devis.
