one example of timecycle
In Jainism, the concept of time is cyclical and is known as "Kālachakra" (wheel of time). One example of the time cycle is the division of time into two halves:
Avasarpini (descending half-cycle): During this period, conditions in the world gradually deteriorate — happiness, virtue, strength, and lifespan decrease.
Utsarpini (ascending half-cycle): In this period, conditions gradually improve — happiness, virtue, strength, and lifespan increase.
Each half-cycle is further divided into six “aras” (epochs or eras), each with its own characteristics. We are currently believed to be in the fifth ara of the avasarpini according to Jain cosmology.
