Is cigarette allowed in jain
No, cigarette is not allowed in Jainism.
In Jain Dharma:
Smoking harms your own body and also others through second‑hand smoke. Hurting yourself is also a form of violence in Jain view.
Tobacco is an addictive, harmful substance. Jains are told to avoid all intoxicants and things that disturb control over mind and senses.
- Aparigraha & Sanyam (non‑attachment and self‑control):
Cigarette creates strong habit and attachment, opposite of Jain ideals of restraint and simplicity.
Both Śvetāmbara and Digambar traditions agree that smoking (cigarette, bidi, tobacco in any form) is against Jain principles and should be given up.
