In Jainism, it is believed that the original scriptures called "Jain Agamas" were vast and comprehensive. According to the tradition, the teachings of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara, were compiled by his chief disciples (Ganadharas) into 12 main texts called "Dwadashangi." These original scriptures were said to contain a huge number of slokas (verses).

Some Jain traditions mention that there were approximately 3.5 crore (35 million) slokas in the original Jain scriptures. These texts contained the complete teachings of Lord Mahavira on philosophy, conduct, cosmology, and spiritual knowledge. However, over time, due to the effects of time (known as "Shrut Jnana Kshay" or the decline of knowledge), most of these scriptures were lost, and only a fraction of them have survived in the present day.

This belief highlights the vastness and depth of Jain knowledge and emphasizes the importance of preserving and respecting the scriptures that remain.
