    How to become Chakravarti

    6 months ago 150

In Jainism, Chakravarti (Chakravartin) means a Sarvabhaum Samrat – a universal emperor. He is one of the 63 Shalaka Purush and is the highest ideal worldly king.

    1. Can someone “decide” to become Chakravarti?

    According to Jain Dharma:

    • In every half time‑cycle (avasarpini / utsarpini) there are only 12 Chakravartis.
    • Their birth is fixed by their previous very strong punya (merit) – especially:
    - immense daan (charity), - protection of life (ahimsa), - helping countless beings, - very pure conduct as a householder (shravak / shravika).

    So, practically:

    > A person cannot just “plan” and become a Chakravarti in this life by effort alone. > It is the result of extremely powerful karmas accumulated over many past lives.

    2. What makes a Chakravarti special?

    Briefly:

    • He rules all six continents of the middle world.
    • Possesses special “ratna” – chakra (divine discus) and other royal treasures.
    • Has huge army and wealth, but rules with dharma, protecting religion and beings.
    • Spiritually, he is still worldly (sansari) – not liberated.
Many later renounce and take diksha, then progress to higher spiritual states.

You can read a simple explanation of who Chakravarti are here

    3. If I want to move towards such a high birth, what should I do?

From a Jain perspective, the right goal is not Chakravarti but Moksha. Still, the causes that lead to very high births (including Chakravarti) are:

    1. Strong Ahimsa

    - Avoid violence in thought, speech, and action. - Vegetarian / vegan, careful in occupation, soft speech, forgiveness.

    1. Daan and Seva

    - Generous charity to: - sadhus–sadhvis, temples, scriptures, - poor, sick, helpless beings. - Do it with nishkaam bhav (without ego and show).

    1. Sadachar (pure conduct)

    - Truthfulness, brahmacharya as far as possible, no stealing, no addictions. - Follow small vows (aṇu‑vrat), fasts, pooja, pratikraman, etc.

    1. Shraddha in Jain Dharma

    - Respect Tirthankaras, Acharyas, monks, and scriptures. - Listen to pravachans, reflect on tattvas (jiva, ajiva, karma, etc.).

    1. Tyag and Aparigrah (limiting possessions)

    - Use wealth as trustee, not owner. - Help others instead of increasing luxury and pride.

These practices purify karma. Their powerful punya can give very high births – as devas, Chakravarti, Vasudev, Baldev, etc. But Jain Dharma repeatedly says:

    > Even Chakravarti remains in the cycle of birth and death. > The highest aim is Keval Jnan and Moksha, not any high worldly status.

    4. What should you keep in mind?

    • Wanting to “become Chakravarti” out of ego, power, or pride binds bad karma.
    • Wanting to follow dharma sincerely, whatever birth comes, leads you upwards.
    • So the safest and purest intention is:
    > “Let me follow true Jain dharma, remove my karmas, and move towards Moksha.”

If the karma for Chakravarti is there, it will come by itself. Your focus should be on right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct.
