3. Why is Navkarshi Pachkan important?
(a) Ahimsa – protection of living beings
- At night and early dawn, many tiny insects and subtle beings are more active.
- By doing Chauvihar at night and then Navkarshi in morning, you avoid eating/drinking in dark and twilight, so less chance of killing small jeev in food and water.
- So Navkarshi Pachkan is a practical way to live Ahimsa daily.
(b) Discipline (sanyam) in eating
- You fix a clear rule: “I will not eat/drink before Navkarshi.”
- This removes casual snacking / mindless eating as soon as you wake up.
- It helps to control tongue, hunger and habits, which is a strong step towards saiyam.
(c) Spiritual mindset in the morning
- Because you know you cannot eat till Navkarshi,

- Jain shastra say: controlled food, fixed rules, and pachkan reduce:

(e) Clarity in daily conduct
- Without Pachkan, rules stay only in mind, so we easily break them.
- With Pachkan, it becomes a spoken vow – you feel answerable to yourself and to Dharma.
- This builds character and stability in spiritual life.
