Was mallinath male or female
In Jain tradition, the answer differs by sect:
Mallinath (Mallīnātha), the 19th Tirthankar, is regarded as
female — often called
Mallī Devī / Mallī Kumārī. So for Śvetāmbar Jains, Mallinath is the only
female Tirthankar in this time‑cycle.
Mallinath is regarded as
male, because Digambar doctrine holds that all 24 Tirthankars of the present half‑cycle are male.
So:
- There is no dispute that Mallinath is the 19th Tirthankar.
- The difference is only about the gender of that last birth:
- Female according to Śvetāmbara.
- Male according to Digambara.
