    Rishavdev contribution in nain

    6 months ago 103

You are asking about the contribution of Bhagwan Rishabhdev (Rishabh Nath / Aadīnāth) in Jainism.

I’ll keep it simple and focused:

    1. First Tirthankar of this time-cycle

    • Rishabhdev is accepted by both Shwetambar and Digambar traditions as:
    - First Tirthankar (1st of 24) - The one who re‑established Jain Dharma in the current Avasarpini (descending time-cycle).

    2. Started organized spiritual path (Tirth)

    • He created the first four-fold Sangh:
    - Sādhus (monks) - Sādhvīs (nuns) - Shravaks (male householders) - Shravikās (female householders)
    • Because of this, he is called Tirthankar – one who creates a “tirth” (path/ford) for souls to cross the ocean of birth and death.

    3. Taught basic social & cultural skills to humans

In Jain tradition, in the early phase of the time-cycle, people did not know basic worldly skills. Rishabhdev is said to have taught:
    • Agriculture – how to grow food
    • Gau‑pālan – care and use of cows
    • Vyāpār – trade and business
    • Vivid kalaa & upyog – arts and useful skills for living
Because of this he is also remembered as a great civilizer of society, not only a spiritual guide.

    4. Gave first vows and dharma discipline

    • He gave people the basic form of dharma, vrat and moral rules, which later evolved into the well-known:
    - Ahimsā (non‑violence) - Satya (truth) - Achaurya / Asteya (non‑stealing) - Brahmacharya (celibacy / control of senses) - Aparigraha (non‑possessiveness)
    • His sons and followers (like Bharat Chakravarti and Bahubali) became examples of how to move from power and pride towards vairāgya and Keval‑jnān.

    5. Ideal of renunciation

    • After a very long and prosperous worldly life as a Chakravarti-like king, he:
    - Renounced everything - Accepted Diksha - Performed deep tapascharya and sāmāyik / dhyān - Attained Keval‑jnān and later Moksha
    • His life shows:
    - Even the greatest king must finally depend only on self-effort (purushārth) and right vision (samyak darshan).

    6. Respect in both traditions

    • Both Shwetambar and Digambar:
    - Accept him as the first Tirthankar - Worship him as Ādināth / Rishabhdev - Tell similar main events: birth, rule, teaching of arts & dharma, renunciation, keval‑jnān, and moksha.
    • Details of stories and icons differ slightly, but his core contribution is same:
He began the present Jain Sangh and re‑ignited true Jain Dharma in this era.
