What kriya we have to do in derasar for varshitap

    6 months ago 97

For Varshitap, there are two parts: 1) daily routine at home, and 2) what kriyā to do in derāsar (temple). I’ll focus on derāsar, in simple steps. Details can vary by saṅgh and guru – always follow your local maryādā first.

Before you start Varshitap (first day)

    • Take proper pachkhan (vow) in front of Jina idol or in presence of a sādhū/sādhvī / guru if possible.
    • Do Navkār Mantra, ask for kṣamā (forgiveness), and clearly state:
    - I will do Varshitap (alternate day upvās) till Akṣay Tritiyā (or as guided). - How you will eat on “beshnī” days (ekāsan/besana, type of food, water rules etc.).

    ---

Daily derāsar kriyā on upvās day (fasting day)

As far as possible, go to derāsar in apramatta bhāv (carefulness).

    1. Pravesh & Namaskār

    - Do Jinālaya pravesh, Namaskār to all Jinālaya dev-devī. - Recite Navkār Mantra with dhyān.

    1. Snātra / Pujā (if maryādā allows on upvās day)

    - Many do at least Jalābhishek or Snātra pūjā of Bhagwān. - Offer: - Jal / Abhiṣek - Puṣpa (flowers) or Aṣṭaprakārī pūjā if you have taken that niyam. - Keep bhāv: “This tapas is only for karmaprasādhan and mokṣa-mārga, not for worldly gain.”

    1. Samayik

    - Sit for 48-min samayik if possible: - Do pratikramaṇ, kāyotsarga, or Navkārvalī / stavans. - Aim is to keep the whole upvās day in equanimity.

    1. Svādhyāy (study)

According to your level: - Navkār arth, 12 tapas, Varsi Tap mahimā, or - Jain stories like Bharat Chakravartī, Ṛṣabhadeva Bhagwān, tapas of Shrāvaks etc. - Listen to pravachan if available in derāsar.

    1. Jāp / Anushṭhān (optional but very good)

    - Decide a fixed niyam for Varshitap period, e.g.: - 108 / 1008 Navkār jāp, - Uvasaggaharam or Logassa jāp daily, - Or a fixed time of śuddhopayog dhyān.

    1. Kṣamā-yāchanā before leaving

    - Before leaving derāsar, do: - “Michchhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ” to all jīvs mentally, - Pray: “Māra tap mā kāṣāy na āve, koī jīvnu hiṃsā na thāy.”

    ---

Daily derāsar kriyā on beshnī (eating) day

On eating days also, the main focus is bhāv, not only food.

    1. Go to derāsar before or after bhojan as per your niyam.
    2. Do:

    - Darshan, Navkār, preferably short pūjā. - Many do Gochari bhāv pūjā mentally before eating (feeling of getting food like a sadhu – without insistence and choice).

    1. Pachkhan for that day’s maryādā

    - Renew your niyam: ekāsan/beāsan, water rules, no taste insistence, etc.

    1. Samayik / Svādhyāy

    - At least some reading or listening related to tapas, ahiṃsā, saṃyam.

    ---

At the end of Varshitap (Parṇā on Akṣay Tritiyā)

    1. Special derāsar kriyā

    - Go early to derāsar. - Do Snātra or full Aṣṭaprakārī pūjā of Ādināth Bhagwān (Ṛṣabhadeva) if possible, because Varshitap is linked to Bhagwān Ṛṣabha’s one-year fast and ikṣu-rasa parṇā.

    1. Dāna & Kṣamā

    - Do dān according to your śakti (sādhus, upāśray, gaushālā, jñān-dān, etc.). - Whole-hearted Michchhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ to all.

    1. Parṇā

    - Break fast as per maryādā (usually with ikṣu-rasa / simple juice / light food as guided by guru/sangh). - Keep very pure, humble bhāv while doing parṇā.

You can read a clear basic explanation of Varshitap and its pattern here and the traditional timing here

    In short:

    • Main kriyā in derāsar during Varshitap = darshan, pūjā, samayik, svādhyāy, jāp, kṣamā, with very careful ahiṃsā and control over krodh-mān-māyā-lobh.
    • Exact details (which pūjā, which stotra, how many samayik, etc.) you should fix after asking your guru / local saṅgh, then follow that niyam till the end.
