When can jains start eating mango in 2026
In Jain Dharma there is no fixed “start date” in the calendar for eating mangoes.
What is followed traditionally is:
- You may eat mangoes as soon as they come in natural season in your area,
- properly washed, - checked carefully for worms/insects, - and eaten in moderation.
- The main Jain rule is about when to STOP mango, not when to start.
As per Jain tradition (and clearly explained by Jain scholars), Jains should stop eating mango and blackberry from the start of Ādrā Nakshatra, because after that time there is a high chance of tiny living beings (larvae, insects, eggs) inside the fruit. In recent years this is usually around 21 June, and Jains are advised to stop by 21 June before sunset to follow ahiṃsā properly. ( jainstudy.wordpress.com)
So for 2026:
- You can start eating mango whenever the natural mango season begins in your region (for most of India, usually April–May),
- But stop by around 21 June 2026 (before sunset), following your local Jain panchāng and your guru/sangh’s guidance.
Because exact dates and customs can vary by city, country, and whether you follow Digambar or Śvetāmbara panchāng, it is best to confirm locally with your Jain sangh or guru for the precise Ādrā Nakshatra date in 2026 for your location.
