Give me varshitap Time table
Here is a simple standard Varshitap timetable (pattern) you can follow. Exact dates (calendar) must always be taken from your local Jain panchang and guru.
---
1. Basic pattern of Varshitap
- Start: Chaitra Shukla 8 (Ashtami)
- End / Pārṇā: Next year Vaishakh Shukla 3 (Akshaya Tritiya), usually with ikṣurasa (sugarcane juice)
- Duration: About 13 lunar months + 13 days (roughly 400 days)
- Main rule:
So the timetable is always in this simple sequence:
- Day 1 – Upvās
- Day 2 – Ekasana / Biyasana
- Day 3 – Upvās
- Day 4 – Ekasana / Biyasana
- Day 5 – Upvās
- Day 6 – Ekasana / Biyasana
… and so on, till Akshaya Tritiya Pārṇā.
---
2. Example of first 14 days (pattern)
Assume you start on Chaitra Shukla 8:
- Day 1 – Start, Upvās (Sankalp day)
- Day 2 – Ekasana / Biyasana
- Day 3 – Upvās
- Day 4 – Ekasana / Biyasana
- Day 5 – Upvās
- Day 6 – Ekasana / Biyasana
- Day 7 – Upvās
- Day 8 – Ekasana / Biyasana
- Day 9 – Upvās
- Day 10 – Ekasana / Biyasana
- Day 11 – Upvās
- Day 12 – Ekasana / Biyasana
- Day 13 – Upvās
- Day 14 – Ekasana / Biyasana
You continue in exactly this alternate pattern right through the year.
---
3. Special days (Chaudas etc.)
According to traditional Śvetāmbara practice:
- If a Chaudas / important tithi comes on your bhoyan day, your guru may ask you to keep Upvās again, so sometimes you may have two Upvās in a row.
- Some follow extra niyam (e.g. Ayambil on certain days, avoiding certain foods, etc.) – this must be decided by your guru.
So the base timetable is fixed (alternate days), but small adjustments are done under guidance.
---
4. How to make your personal timetable
- Take your Jain panchang for the year.
- Mark start day (Chaitra Shukla 8).
- From that date, write:
- “U” on Day 1, 3, 5, 7… (Upvās days) - “E/B” on Day 2, 4, 6, 8… (Ekasana/Biyasana days)
- Mark Vaishakh Shukla 3 (next year) as “Pārṇā – Ikṣurasa”.
- Show this chart to your guru / pathshala teacher and get it confirmed.
---
5. Important notes
- Always start Varshitap only with proper saṅkalp from a guru.
- Follow daily:
- Health is important. If there is any problem, immediately inform your guru and family.
