What is the Dev Vandan timing
In Jain dharma, Dev Vandan has “niyamit” (regular) timings, not “astrological” timings. Traditionally it is done trikāl – three times a day:
- Prātaḥ-kāl (Morning)
- After getting ready, doing daily shauch–snān (bath) etc. - Usually after Samayik / Pratikraman or as part of Chaitya-vandan in the temple.
- Madhyāhna (Midday / Noon time)
- Around the middle of the day, again preferably linked with Chaitya-vandan.
- Sāyam-kāl (Evening)
- Around sunset / early evening, many do Dev Vandan along with Sandhyā and Pratikraman.
General traditional guidelines
- Do it in a shuddh (pure, clean) state – body and mind.
- Preferably in front of the Jinālaya / image of Jina (temple or home-derasar).
- Avoid doing it:
Both Śvetāmbara and Digambara traditions accept Dev/Chaitya-vandan as a daily upāsanā, mainly centered around morning, noon, and evening; details of vidhi and shloks differ, but the idea of doing it regularly at these times is the same.
