Here is a simple version of Jambu Swami’s story:

Jambu Swami (Jambu Kumar) was a prince of Rajgrihi (Rajgir). He lived a very royal and comfortable life, with great wealth and happiness.

Turning point in his life

One day he heard the pravachan (sermon) of Ārya Sudharma Swami, the chief disciple (gaṇadhar) of Bhagwān Mahavir. From this, Jambu Kumar understood:

• All worldly pleasures are temporary
• Birth, old age, disease and death are full of sorrow
• Only through samyak darshan, samyak jnān and samyak chāritra can one attain moksha

Deeply touched, Jambu Kumar decided to renounce the world and take diksha.

Renunciation (Diksha)

His parents and relatives tried their best to stop him:

• They reminded him of his young age
• They spoke about his beautiful wives and royal future
• They even arranged enjoyments to change his mind

But Jambu Kumar remained firm. He explained to his family and wives that real happiness is in the soul, not in temporary pleasures.

In many versions of the story, his wives also understand this truth from him and decide to accept the path of dharma with devotion.

Finally, Jambu Kumar takes diksha from Ārya Sudharma Swami and becomes Jambu Swami.

Life as a sadhu

After diksha, Jambu Swami:

• Followed all mahāvrats very strictly
• Did deep dhyān (meditation) and severe tapas (penance)
• Lived with complete aparigraha (non‑possessiveness)
• Remained always alert about kashāy (anger, pride, deceit, greed)

Because of his pure conduct and deep meditation, his karmas got destroyed very fast.

Keval Jnān – becoming the last Kevali

In due time, Jambu Swami attained Keval Jnān – complete, perfect knowledge.

• He is accepted (in both Digambar and Shvetambar tradition) as the last Kevali (omniscient) of the present time‑cycle (avasarpiṇī).
• After Mahavir Swami, no other soul in this era will attain Keval Jnān; the line of Kevalis ends with Jambu Swami.

Preaching and disciples

After becoming Kevali, Jambu Swami:

• Travelled and preached dharma for many years
• Guided countless souls on the path of right faith and right conduct
• Converted many people with strong wrong beliefs, including dangerous persons like bandits, into gentle, pious followers and monks

Among his famous disciples is Prabhav Swami, who was earlier a robber and later became a great saint.

Nirvana (Moksha)

Finally, after completing his spiritual journey:

• Jambu Swami attained moksha (nirvana) at Mathura (Chaurasi)
• This happened after Bhagwān Mahavir’s nirvana (in traditional accounts, around 64 years later)
• With his moksha, the era of Kevalis in this time‑cycle came to an end

So, Jambu Swami is remembered as:

• A prince who left all luxury for the soul
• A disciple of Sudharma Swami
• The last Kevali of this era
• A great preacher who helped many souls progress towards liberation
