After Phalgun Poonam, the season starts becoming hotter, so according to Jain maryādā the kāl of boiled water is generally kept shorter.

For householders (shravak–shravikā) a simple, safe rule is:

• Normal weather:

Use boiled, filtered water within 24 hours of boiling.

• Hot / humid weather (after Phalgun Poonam, summer time):

Better to finish it within about 12 hours of boiling.

Basic points:

• Boil after sunrise, filter with clean cloth, keep covered in a clean vessel.
• Do not mix old and new water.
• Once its kāl is over, remaining water should be discarded, not drunk.
• Exact rule can vary by saṅgh and Āchārya, so follow the maryādā of your own guru/saṅgh first.
