is there reservation for jain caste

    6 months ago 93

In India, being Jain does not automatically give you a “reservation by caste” like SC/ST/OBC.

    Very briefly:

    1. Jains are a National Minority (since 2014)

    - This is based on religion, not caste. - Because of this, Jains can get: - Access to minority welfare schemes and scholarships (central and some state schemes for religious minorities). - Jain trusts can run “minority educational institutions” where they may reserve a portion of seats for Jain students.

    1. No separate all‑India Jain quota like SC/ST/OBC

    - Reservation in India is mainly given to SC, ST, and OBC, which are defined by specific government lists, not just by being Jain. - As Jains, you are usually counted in General category, unless your particular Jain sub‑community is listed under OBC in your state’s list.

    1. EWS quota

    - Jains who are not in SC/ST/OBC and who meet the income/asset limits can use the 10% EWS reservation (Economically Weaker Section) in many central and state institutions. - This is again economic, not Jain‑specific.

    1. Some Jain groups in some states

    - In a few states, certain Jain sub‑communities are included in state OBC/backward‑class lists. - This is different in each state, so you need to check your own state’s current OBC list or ask the local authority.

    1. Spiritually in Jainism

    - Jain Dharma does not support caste superiority for spiritual progress. - Moksha depends on right faith, right knowledge, right conduct, not on caste.

    A clear summary (India):

    • Yes: Jains have minority status, so they can get minority schemes and Jain‑minority‑institution benefits.
    • No separate all‑India “Jain reservation” like SC/ST/OBC.
    • Extra reservation, if any, depends on:
    - EWS rules (if you are eligible), and - Whether your specific Jain community is on your state’s OBC list.
