Apple cider viniger is allowed for Jain??
In traditional Jain maryādā, apple cider vinegar is not allowed.
Reason:
- Vinegar (including apple cider vinegar) is a fermented product.
- In fermentation, countless tiny living organisms (anantkāy jiv) are involved and get destroyed.
- Because of this, all kinds of vinegar are generally kept in the “always avoid / abhakṣya” group in Jain food practice.
This understanding is the same in both Śvetāmbara and Digambara traditions, though individual families may follow with different strictness. If your guru, sadhu/sadhviji, or local Jain sangh has given specific guidance, you should follow that.
So, from a Jain dharma point of view focused on ahiṃsā: > Apple cider vinegar = avoid.
