Create varshitap calendar 2026
Here is a simple and practical Varshitap 2026 calendar guide.
---
1. Main dates for Varshitap 2026
As per standard Jain panchang guidance:
- Varshitap Start (Arambh)
- Varshitap Pārṇā (ending)
⚠️ Very important: Exact English dates and sunrise–sunset times must be taken from your local Jain panchang and your guru / upadhyāy. Different cities and traditions (Śvetāmbara / Digambara, different panchangs) may show 1-day difference.
You can read a brief note about “When to start in 2026 for Varshitap” here:

2. Pattern of fasting for Varshitap
The classic Varshitap (alternate–day upvās) pattern is:
- Day 1 (Start tithi – Chaitra Shukla Ashtami):
- Day 2:
- Day 3:
- Day 4:
- …and so on, alternating upvās and bhojan every day
So your Varshitap calendar is simply:
> U – B – U – B – U – B – … > (U = Upvās, B = Bhojan day)
From Chaitra Shukla Ashtami up to Vaiśākh Shukla Tritiyā (Akṣay Tritiyā).
---
3. Example layout (from start date)
If we take a commonly followed Indian panchang:
- Start: Around 9 March 2026 – Chaitra Shukla Ashtami
- End (Pārṇā): Around 19 April 2026 – Vaiśākh Shukla Tritiyā (Akṣay Tritiyā)
Then the first few days will look like this (you can mark this on any 2026 calendar):
- 9 March 2026 – U (Start – Upvās)
- 10 March – B
- 11 March – U
- 12 March – B
- 13 March – U
- 14 March – B
- 15 March – U
- 16 March – B
- …continue same pattern till Akṣay Tritiyā…
On Akṣay Tritiyā (≈ 19 April 2026) you do:
- Up to Pārṇā time: follow final upvās rule
- At Pārṇā: break Varshitap with Ikṣurasa (ganna ras / sugarcane juice) as per tradition, with proper pachchakhān and guru’s ājñā.
---
4. How to make your own full calendar
- Take a Jain panchang 2026 for your city & tradition.
- Find:
- Chaitra Shukla Ashtami (mark as Day 1 – U) - Vaiśākh Shukla Tritiyā (Akṣay Tritiyā) (final day – Pārṇā)
- On a printed 2026 calendar (or Excel / notebook):
- From Day 1 till Akṣay Tritiyā, write U, B, U, B… alternately.
- Show this to your guru / pravachan shibir / local Jain scholar once and get it verified before starting.
---
5. Small reminders for Varshitap
During the whole Varshitap period, usually:
- Keep daily pratikraman, svādhyāy, stavans, dhyān as much as possible. ( punjabkesari.in)
- Follow tyāg: no night-eating, avoid root vegetables, multi-seed foods etc., as per your tradition.
- Keep body within limits – consult doctor if you have health issues, and do Varshitap only with guru’s permission.
---
If you want, you can now take these dates, mark them on your local 2026 calendar, and write “U” and “B” as above – that becomes your Varshitap Calendar 2026.
