Can u explain om namo jinanam sarnanam mangalanam logutamanam hram hrim hrum hrim

    6 months ago 198

This mantra is a short Jain prayer of surrender and mangal (auspiciousness). Written more clearly, it is usually:

    “ॐ नमो जिनाणं शरणाणं मङ्गलाणं लोगोत्तमाणं ह्राँ ह्रीं ह्रूँ ह्रीं” Om Namo Jināṇam Śaraṇāṇam Maṅgalāṇam Loguttamāṇam Hrām Hrīm Hrum Hrīm

Let’s break it in very simple words:

    ---

    1. “Om”

    • A sacred sound used at the beginning of many Jain mantras.
    • It prepares the mind and makes it peaceful and focused.

    ---

    2. “Namo Jināṇam”

    • Namo = I bow / I offer my respect.
    • Jināṇam = to the Jinas (those who have conquered inner enemies like anger, ego, greed, deceit).
    • Meaning:
“I bow to all Jinas – the victorious, enlightened ones.”

    ---

    3. “Śaraṇāṇam”

    • Śaraṇa = refuge, shelter, protection.
    • Meaning:
“I take refuge in them.” In Jain sense, this means: - I accept their path, - I trust their teachings, - I wish to walk on their way of samyak darshan, gyan, charitra.

    ---

    4. “Maṅgalāṇam”

    • Maṅgal = that which is truly auspicious, holy, pure.
    • Maṅgalāṇam = of all auspicious ones.
    • Meaning:
“They are the most auspicious beings.”

    ---

    5. “Loguttamāṇam”

    • Loka (Log) = world, universe.
    • Uttam = highest.
    • Loguttamāṇam = those who are the highest in the whole universe.
    • Meaning:
“They are the supreme, the highest in all the worlds.”

So till here, the sense is:

    > “Om, I bow to the Jinas, > I take refuge in them, > who are the most auspicious > and the highest beings in all the worlds.”

    ---

    6. “Hrām Hrīm Hrum Hrīm”

These are called bīja-akṣar (seed syllables).

    • They do not have a direct simple dictionary meaning.
    • In Jain tradition, they are used in some mantras and yantras to:
    - strengthen concentration, - invoke inner purity, - connect the mind deeply to the qualities of Arihant / Siddha.
    • You can understand them as:
    - holy sounds that carry the subtle power of the mantra, - helping the mind to become steady, pure, and tuned to the Jina.

    When you chant:

    > “Hrām Hrīm Hrum Hrīm”

    focus on:

    • removing inner darkness (ignorance, mithyātva),
    • increasing shanti, faith, and devotion towards Jina.

    ---

    Simple overall meaning

Putting it all together in very simple language:

    > “With Om, I bow to all Jinas, > I take their refuge. > They are the most pure, most auspicious, > and the highest beings in the universe. > By these holy seed-sounds (Hrām Hrīm Hrum Hrīm), > may my inner faults be destroyed and > may I walk on their path.”

    You can chant this mantra:

    • with folded hands,
    • remembering any Tirthankar (like Mahavir Bhagwan),
    • with a calm mind and pure intention.

If you wish, I can also write a very short, easy-to-memorise Hindi/English arth line for daily use.
