    who is goddess padmavathi

    6 months ago 103

In Jainism, Padmavati Mata (Padmāvatī Devī) is:

    • Yakshini / Śāsan Devī (protective goddess) of Bhagwan Parshvanath, the 23rd Tirthankar.
    • A powerful devi who protects and serves Parshvanath Bhagwan, not a creator‑god or supreme being. She is a heavenly soul still in the cycle of birth and death (saṁsār), just with very high powers.

Main points about Padmavati Mata in Jainism

    • Relation: Attendant goddess of Parshvanath Bhagwan.
    • Form / Icon:
    - Often shown with a hood of snakes over her head (nāg-devī form). - Usually four-armed in common Jain iconography. - Her vahan (vehicle) is generally shown as a cock (rooster). - She may hold lotus, goad (ankush), and other symbols of protection and siddhi.
    • Nature:
    - She is a devī who protects true shravaks and shravikas who have faith in Jain dharma and in Parshvanath. - Like all devs and devis in Jainism, she is not eternal, not all‑powerful, and not the giver of moksh. - Only Tirthankars’ path of right faith, right knowledge and right conduct leads to liberation.

    Worship in Jain tradition

    • Many Jains, especially in Parshvanath temples, have Padmavati Mata’s shrine near or behind the main idol.
    • People pray to her mainly for:
    - Protection from fear and obstacles. - Help in safely following Jain dharma.
    • Shwetambar and Digambar traditions:
    - Both accept her as associated with Parshvanath Bhagwan. - There may be differences in details of stories, mantras, and icon style, but her basic role as protective Yakshini / Shasan Devi of Parshvanath is the same.
