Instead, Jain philosophy teaches that the universe is eternal and operates according to its own natural laws, without the need for a divine creator or controller.

However, Jainism does acknowledge the existence of divine beings (devas) and liberated souls (Tirthankaras and Siddhas) who are worshipped and revered. These beings are not creators or rulers, but perfected souls who have achieved liberation (moksha) through their own efforts.

Therefore, Jainism is better described as non-theistic—it neither affirms nor denies the existence of a creator God, but focuses on self-effort and the path to liberation. The emphasis is on individual spiritual development, non-violence (ahimsa), and the liberation of the soul.
