How many prahar can boiler water be consumed in chaitra / March month?
In Jain dharma, the time‑limit for using boiled water depends on the season (ṛtu), not on the English month.
According to traditional Jain guidelines:
- In uṣṇa / nidāgha (hot season) – boiled water (properly boiled 3 times) can be used for 5 prahar = 15 hours.
- 1 prahar = 3 hours
The month of Chaitra (around March–April) falls in the hot season, so:
> In Chaitra: boiled water can be consumed for up to 5 prahar (15 hours) from the time it is boiled. > After that, it is considered sacitta (with living beings) and should not be used for drinking by one who is following water‑saṃyam carefully.
