In Jain Dharma, all souls (jiv) are broadly divided into two spiritual categories:

1. Bhavi Jiv (भवि जीव / Bhavya jiva)

- These are souls capable of attaining moksh (liberation). - They can, at some point, get samyak darshan, samyak gyan, samyak charitra (right faith, knowledge, conduct). - Even if they are now in ignorance, anger, pride, greed etc., they have the inner potential to turn towards dharma and finally become Siddha. 1. Abhavi / Abhavya Jiv (अभवि / अभव्य जीव)

- These are souls considered incapable of attaining moksh. - Their mithyatva (wrong belief) and karmic bondage are so deep that they never develop true right faith, so they never enter the real path to liberation. ( jainknowledge.com)

Key difference (simple)

• Bhavi jiv – “Can become liberated someday.”
• Abhavi / Abhavya jiv – “Will never become liberated.”

Digambar & Shvetambar view (very briefly)

• Both accept the division of jiv into bhavya and abhavya (this is in main Jain philosophy texts like Tattvarth Sutra).
• Detailed discussions and examples may differ in their commentaries, but the basic idea is the same:

- Some souls are spiritually “receptive” (bhavya), - Some are eternally “non‑receptive” (abhavya).
