When you start eating mango?
You should start eating mangoes when:
- They are in season
- In India, good natural mangoes usually come in summer (around April–June, sometimes a bit before or after depending on region). - From a Jain point of view, eating seasonal fruits is best.
- They are naturally ripe
- Fruit should be sweet, fragrant, and soft to touch, not artificially ripened with chemicals. - Avoid overripe (fermenting) fruit, as it may have more microorganisms.
- Time of day (according to Jain discipline)
- Ideally eaten in the daytime, after sunrise and well before sunset. - Many Jains avoid eating fruit at night because of higher chances of unseen life in food and weaker inspection in low light.
So, in short: Eat mangoes in their natural season, when they are properly ripe, and preferably during daylight hours, keeping ahimsa and simplicity in mind.
