According to Jain tradition, in his immediate previous birth (just before becoming Tirthankar), Bhagwan Vasupujya’s prior birth was as King Padmottar.

• He was King Padmottar of Mangalavati town in Ardhapushkar Dweep.
• He was very inclined towards dharma, did deep tapas (austerities) and sādhanā.
• In his later life he took diksha from Acharya Vajranabh.
• By strong penance and spiritual practice he destroyed many karmas and earned Tirthankar‑nāma‑gotra karma.
• After that life he was born as a deva (celestial being) in Pranat dev‑lok,
• And from there his soul descended into the womb of Queen Jaya (Jayādevī) at Champapuri, where he took birth as Tirthankar Vasupujya Bhagwan.
