When we can start eating mango 2026
In Jain dharma there is no fixed tithi or religious rule only for mango (like “from this exact date you can start eating mango in 2026”).
The main Jain principles for food are:
- Eat only in natural season (ṛtu)
- When a fruit grows naturally, it has less unseen violence (fewer insects, less storage, less chemical use). - For most parts of India, mango season is roughly mid‑April to July. - So in 2026 also, you should start only when mango naturally comes in your local market in season, not very early, off‑season, or imported from far.
- Avoid high‑hiṁsā methods
- Do not eat mango that is ripened with chemicals (like carbide). - Avoid mango stored for very long in cold storage or transported half‑raw just for business, because that usually involves more hiṁsā. - Never eat over‑ripe, rotten, or insect‑infested mango.
- Follow your local Jain ācārya / pravachan
- Some sanghs give special pachchakkhāṇ (vows) for certain fruits or for Chaturmās etc. - If your guru, upādhyāy, or local Jain society has told a specific date or rule, follow that first.
So, for 2026: You may start eating mango when it naturally comes in season in your area (usually around late April in India), ensuring it is seasonal, clean, and non‑chemically ripened, and in line with the guidance of your Jain guru or local sangh.
