How many chath in varshitap for the year 2026- 2027

    6 months ago 102

For Varshitap, the number of “chath” (fasting days / upvās) is not fixed by Gregorian years (2026–2027), but by:

    • Start: Chaitra Shukla 8 (Ashtami)
    • End (parnā): Vaishakh Shukla 3 (Akshay Tritiya) of the next year

Because it is alternate‑day fasting for about one lunar year, in a normal year it comes to roughly 180 fasting days (chath). However:

    • In 2026–2027 there is adhikmās (extra month) in many Jain pañchāngs, so this particular Varshitap cycle will be longer than usual (reports mention the tapa going beyond 12 months this time).
    • The exact total chath count for 2026–2027 will depend on your local Jain pañchāng (calendar) and the exact tithi sequence they follow.

So, for your Varshitap 2026–2027, you should:

    1. Take your local Varshitap start and parnā tithi from your sangh’s official calendar.
    2. Count every alternate day as chath from start up to parnā.
    3. Your guru / panch, or the printed Varshitap list from your local sangh, will usually give the ready‑made count of chath for that specific year and location.

Online I can confirm the tithi pattern (start on Chaitra Shukla Ashtami, parnā on next year’s Vaishakh Shukla Tritiya), but not the precise total chath number for your city. For a tapa of this level, always follow your local Jain pañchāng or guru’s instructions as final.
