Time period of his reign

• Samprati was a Mauryan emperor.
• Jain and historical sources place his reign roughly around 224 BCE to 215 BCE.
• He was the grandson of Emperor Ashoka and ruled mainly from Pataliputra (Magadh) and also Ujjain.

Relation to Jainism

• Samprati accepted Jain Dharma under the guidance of Jain acharyas (often mentioned is Acharya Suhasti/Suhastisuri).
• He is lovingly called the “Jain Ashoka” because, just as Ashoka spread Buddhism, Samprati used his political power and wealth to spread Jainism.
• Jain tradition says he:

- Built and renovated thousands of Jain temples (Jinalayas). - Installed millions of Jin-idols (Jina pratimas). - Sent Jain monks and scholars to many regions inside and even outside India to spread Jain principles of ahimsa (non‑violence) and satya (truth).
