gender of mallinath
In Jain tradition, the gender of Bhagwan Mallinath (the 19th Tirthankar) is understood differently by the two main sects:
- Shwetambar tradition
- Digambar tradition
Both traditions fully agree that:
- Mallinath is the 19th Tirthankar,
- the symbol (lanchhan) is a kalash (water pot),
- and the spiritual status, keval-jnan, and moksha of Mallinath are the same; only the bodily gender is described differently.
