    navoad aayambil oli

    6 months ago 105

“Navpad Ayambil Oli” (often spoken as “navoad aayambil oli”) means:

    • Navpad / Navapad = 9 supreme “pads” (posts):
Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, Sadhu, Samyak Darshan, Samyak Gyan, Samyak Charitra, Samyak Tap.
    • Ayambil = one very simple, tasteless meal in a day (no milk/curd/ghee/oil/sugar, very limited or no spices; usually plain boiled grains or pulses, with boiled water only at set times).
    • Oli = 9‑day period of special sadhana.

    What is Navpad Ayambil Oli?

    • It is a 9‑day Jain festival of tapas and bhakti, done twice a year (in Chaitra and Ashwin months).
    • Every day, one does Ayambil tap and worships Navpad / Siddhachakra.
    • These 9 days are from Sud 7 (Satam) to Sud 15 (Poonam) of Chaitra and Ashwin.
    • The focus is:
    - Victory over taste - Reducing kashayas (anger, ego, deceit, greed) - Remembering and worshipping the 9 pads (Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, Sadhu, Samyak Darshan, Samyak Gyan, Samyak Charitra, Samyak Tap).

During these days, along with Ayambil, Jains usually do:

    • Siddhachakra / Navpad puja
    • Samayik, pratikraman
    • Swadhyay (study of Jain scriptures)
    • Dhyan (meditation) and charity
    • Extra care in ahimsa and good conduct.

    Digambar & Shwetambar

    • Shwetambar: often say “Ayambil Oli” or “Siddhachakra Oli”; main focus is Siddhachakra puja every day plus Ayambil.
    • Digambar: often say “Navapad Oli” or “Navdevta Oli”; some do Ayambil, some Ekasan or Upvas; Navpad aradhana is central.
Rules of food etc. can differ slightly, but aim is the same – tapas + devotion to the Navpad.
