Snātra Pūjā (Snatra Puja) is a special Jain worship that mainly remembers and re‑enacts the janma‑kalyāṇak (holy birth event) of a Tirthankar.

Simple meaning

• “Snātra” = sacred bath / abhiṣek of the newborn Tirthankar.
• Snatra Puja = a devotional ritual where we symbolically bathe and worship the Tirthankar, just as Indra and Devas did on Mount Meru at the time of His birth.

During this puja we:

• Remember the pure birth and divine qualities of the Tirthankar.
• Do abhishek (jalabhishek) of the idol with water (sometimes milk etc., as per maryādā).
• Sing stavans / sutras describing the Tirthankar’s birth, dreams of the mother, and virtues.
• Pray for inner purification, peace, and progress towards moksha.

Spiritual purpose

• To cleanse our inner self, just as we externally bathe the idol.
• To reduce kashāyas (anger, pride, deceit, greed) through humility and devotion.
• To keep in mind the goal of liberation, following the path shown by the Tirthankaras.
• To spread śānti (peace) and punya‑bandh (merit) through right faith and right feeling.

• Both traditions perform this type of abhishek / Snatra Puja.
• Texts, tunes, and small procedures may differ, but the essence is the same:

honoring the Tirthankaras and purifying one’s own bhāva.
