Jain girl married non jain thoughts

    6 months ago 86

In Jain Dharma, the main focus is always on:

    • ahimsā (non‑violence)
    • satya (truth)
    • aparigraha (non‑possessiveness)
    • and progress of the soul (ātma‑kalyāṇ)

When a Jain girl marries a non‑Jain, some important points from a Jain view:

    1. Marriage itself is not a sin

Jain scriptures do not say that marrying only a Jain is the condition for liberation. What matters more is: - Does this relationship help you reduce anger, ego, deceit, greed? - Does it support a peaceful, ethical life?

    1. Respect for Jain Dharma is very important

Even if the partner is non‑Jain, ideally he should: - Respect your faith, vrat, fasting, pūjā, and dietary rules. - Not force you to give up Jain practices. - Be open to understanding basic Jain values like non‑violence.

    1. Food & ahiṁsā are key practical issues

    - Try to maintain a pure vegetarian (ideally Jain) lifestyle. - Avoid direct involvement in cooking/meals that involve himsā (meat, eggs, etc.). - If both partners handle this with understanding, many conflicts reduce.

    1. Children & dharma

Think clearly about: - Will you be free to teach Jain principles to your children? - Can you at least give them basic Jain saṁskār: compassion to all beings, truthfulness, simple living, and maybe basic prayers? Even if the children follow a mixed environment, good Jain values will still protect their soul.

    1. Karmic view

From a Jain standpoint: - This situation is also a result of past karmas. - Instead of guilt, use it as an opportunity to practice more samyak dṛṣṭi (right vision), kindness, and self‑discipline. - If the marriage increases violence, lying, intoxication, heavy attachment, etc., then karmic bondage increases. - If it increases peace, patience, forgiveness, and compassion, then it can also become a step on the spiritual path.

    1. Family and samāj concerns

    - Many Jain families worry about dharma getting weakened in the next generation; their concern is natural. - Try to keep communication respectful: don’t insult Jain values to please the non‑Jain side, and don’t insult the spouse to please the Jain side. - With time, if the girl continues her Jain practices sincerely, often families become softer.

    1. Inner honesty with yourself

    - Ask yourself: Am I moving closer to Jain values or farther? - Even in a non‑Jain environment you can: - Do daily pratikraman (even short) - Recite Navkār Mantra - Do small fasts / upvās / sāmāyik as possible Your inner practice matters more than the label of “Jain or non‑Jain marriage”.

Summary: Jain Dharma does not promote hatred or rejection. It encourages you to live with non‑violence, truth, and spiritual awareness, whatever your situation. If a Jain girl marries a non‑Jain, the most important things are:

    • preserve and practice Jain values,
    • ensure mutual respect for religion,
    • avoid himsā as much as possible,
    • and use this relationship to grow in patience, forgiveness, and inner purity.
