In Jain Dharma, strictly speaking there is no sutak (ritual impurity period) after birth.

“Sutak” as days of religious impurity (no puja, no temple, no path etc.) is mainly a non‑Jain / local social custom, not a principle of Jain philosophy.

According to Jain view

• Birth of a child is not a paap, it is a paryaya parivartan (change of state of a soul).
• So, there is no fixed Jain rule like 10 days, 11 days, 21 days etc. after birth.
• Jin puja, darshan, pratikraman, paath etc. can be done even on the same day, from the Jain dharma point of view.
• Only practical care is advised:

- Mother and baby should rest, keep cleanliness and avoid infection. - Others should maintain hygiene when meeting them.

Why do some Jains still keep sutak?

• Many Jain families follow Hindu or local customs (10 days, 11 days, 21 days…) as family tradition, not as a Jain shastriya niyam.
• If your family elders follow a system, you may follow it out of respect for them, but know clearly:

- It is paramparā, not primary Jain dharma.
