Keval gyan obtained by attaining anitya bhavna

    one year ago 166

In Jainism, Keval Gyan (omniscience or absolute knowledge) is the state of perfect, infinite knowledge, free from all bondages of karma. It is considered the highest state a soul can achieve before attaining liberation (moksha).

Anitya Bhavna is one of the twelve bhavnas (reflections or contemplations) prescribed for spiritual aspirants. Anitya Bhavna means the contemplation of impermanence—reflecting on the transient nature of all worldly things, relationships, and even the body itself. By meditating on impermanence, attachment to temporary worldly objects is reduced.

Relationship between Anitya Bhavna and Keval Gyan:

    • Directly, the contemplation of Anitya Bhavna alone does not result in immediate Keval Gyan.
    • However, practicing Anitya Bhavna is a significant step in the spiritual path as taught by Jainism. It helps a seeker develop detachment (vairagya) from worldly possessions and relationships, reducing passions (kashayas) such as attachment, aversion, pride, and greed.
    • Reduction of passions leads to the shedding (nirjara) of karmas, especially those that obscure knowledge (Gyanavarniya Karma).
    • As karmic coverings are gradually eliminated through right faith, right knowledge, right conduct, and reflections like Anitya Bhavna, the soul becomes purer.
    • When all four destructive karmas (ghatiya karma) are destroyed, the soul attains Keval Gyan.

In summary: Anitya Bhavna is an important practice on the path to liberation, as it helps reduce attachments and passions. This, in turn, aids in the destruction of karmas that obscure omniscience. Thus, while Anitya Bhavna alone does not directly grant Keval Gyan, it is an essential step in the process leading to its attainment according to Jain philosophy.
