    jathere for manhani gotra

    5 months ago 129

“Jathere” is not a Jain Dharma term; it is used in Punjabi society for an ancestral place of worship (clan shrine), and that is outside proper Jain-scriptural concepts.

    In Jainism:

    • Gotra means the gotra‑karma (status‑determining karma):
    - Uchcha‑gotra – high status - Nīcha‑gotra – low status
    • Manhānī / nindā / upmān generally means insulting, belittling or disrespecting others, especially:
    - Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, sādhu–sādhvī - Jain scriptures, temples, and true dharma This is counted among serious pāpa that become causes for nīcha‑gotra karma in future births.

    So:

    • If you are asking about a Punjabi “jathere” for a clan called “Manhani gotra”, that is a social / caste question, not a Jain-dharma topic, and I cannot guide on that.
    • If you are asking from Jain karmic point of view:
For manhānī (insulting) that leads to low gotra karma, the Jain way is: 1. Pratikraman – accept the fault, remember it carefully. 2. Ālochana – openly confess before a Guru (or mentally in their presence / in front of an image if no Guru is available). 3. Prāyaścitta – do the atonement decided by Guru (e.g. extra samayik, upvās / ayambil, more svādhyāy, sevā of sādhus–sādhvīs, etc.). 4. Kṣamā–yāchanā – sincerely ask forgiveness from the person or category of beings you insulted. 5. Nishchay–parivartan – strong resolve not to repeat that insult again.

If you meant something more specific from Jain scriptures (for example, “what is the karma result of manhānī leading to nīcha‑gotra?” or “what prāyaścitta is prescribed for insulting a sadhu?”), please write that clearly and I can explain that part of Jain dharma.
